July 19th 2008 ~ Scratch Art @ Canvas LA
Thursday, July 10th, 2008| July 18, 2008 | ||
| 8:00 pm | to | 11:59 pm |
Join us July 19th at 8 PM as we celebrate the opening of “Scratch Art”, a remarkable collection of scratchboard art from over 200 international tattoo artists.
“Scratchboard is not a medium that most artists think about much. Many of us played around with crude scratchboards in grade school and never picked up the medium again. However, it turns out to be a versatile fine art medium that has a number of interesting parallels with tattooing, including the need for planning and the lack of any way of erasing. In the new book Scratch Art (Proton Press, $40) this medium is explored in depth by around 200 tattoo artists, using tools ranging from steel wool to tattoo needles. The rules: None. Any style, any subject. The result is a 272 page powerhouse of amazing art by a long list of today’s leading tattoo visionaries including Aaron Cain, Bob Tyrrell, Nick Baxter, Jon Clue, Filip Leu, Timothy Hoyer, Michele Wortman, Guy Aitchison and many others. This book is a perfect addition to your home or studio art collection; with its pages representing over 2000 hours of work, it’s a book worth picking up and perusing again and again.
For more information about the book, go to www. hyperspacestudios. com.
“
Canvas Los Angeles will be carrying the book in-store and online, but nothing beats seeing the pieces (most of which are very affordably priced) in person. We expect a big turnout including many of the participating artists.
Don’t miss this landmark gallery exhibition!
The opening reception will also feature our first live art installation. We invite everyone in attendance to add their mark to our “Scratch Wall”, an assembly of 8×10 scratch boards linked together to make one big artistic experience. At the end of the night, the wall will be auctioned off in sections to benefit LITTLE KIDS ROCK. This Charity is dedicated to putting music instruments and funding into public school programs, and we are proud to donate all the proceeds of the auction to them.
You can visit their website at www. littlekidsrock. org
Opening reception: Saturday July 19th, 2008 8 PM - Midnight
