Weekend in Review.
Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008This past weekend, all I did was snap graff pics, so expect those for a while. I don’t now if I’ll be hitting up many art shows, I’ve been very busy and I don’t really have time to find any shows. If you have any info on upcoming shows, please email them to amayzun [at] gmail [dot] com.

April 19th, 200 8 ~ Deharavath @ GR2
Deharavath art show opening GR2
Yukinori Dehara, David Horvath, and Sun-Min Kim at GR2
April 19 - May 14
Reception: Saturday, April 19, 6:30 - 10:00
Giant Robot is proud to host Deharavath, a group art show featuring the work of Yukinori Dehara, David Horvath, and Sun-Min Kim.
Dehara’s hand-painted clay depictions of debauched salarymen, brutalized gangsters, happy monsters, and other unique figures stand about 5-inches tall. Although the pieces are detailed and glossy, the subtle and intentional flaws of the Japanese artist’s self-described “crummy” style project more humanity than horror, and are oddly sympathetic. His work has garnered a cult of collectors around the world, and is celebrated in books, stickers, and other merchandise. For this show, his subject will be “zombie children.”
David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim are best known for creating of UglyDolls, the indie plush dolls that have gained a rabid worldwide following and sparked a movement of cool handmade toys. For this show, the duo is making one-of-a-kind framed prints, drawings, paintings, and handmade plush surprises. Horvath and Kim promise that everything will be all new, including a special Ice Bat kaiju figure made in conjunction with Dehara.
A reception for the artists will take place from 6:30 - 10:00 on Saturday, April 19.
Cost: Free admission

Canvas Los Angeles is proud to showcase Skull & Sword, a highly anticipated group show that features new original works by an elite group of modern artists with roots in tattooing, graffiti, painting, and graphic design. Curated by San Francisco tattoo and graffiti artist NORM, this exhibit is a testament to the power and relevance of what many still deem "outsider art".
Whether in tattooing, graffiti writing, or fine art, Skull & Sword’s artists are in the top echelon of their field. Admired by their peers and highly sought after by collectors, they are fearless innovators. Many are considered godfathers of their community, trailblazers who inspired countless up and comers. Others are relatively young, or under the radar. It is their vision and drive that sets this group of artists apart from the rest, and that brings them all together for this exhibit. Skull and Sword is about artists on a lifetime quest for excellence.
Participating artists include:
Todd Noble - Grime - Norm - Bert Krak - Amanda Lynn - Reyes - Push - CIV - Jesse Roberts - Revok - Yutaro Sakai - Jersey Joe - Shawn Barber - Phil Holt - Henry Lewis - Marcus Pacheco - Lango - Saber - Keyn - Filip Leu - Titine Leu - Mike Shea

Weekend in Review
Wednesday, April 16th, 2008Friday, I hit up the LA vs War show. It was a good event, lots of stuff to see. I just found out that on Sunday, all of the live painting that was done in the Crewest section was on display, so I didn’t get a chance to see the final works of some of the artists. Saturday, I went down to Long Beach and caught the DIAR Benefit show. The show was pretty great, COPE2, CRIME79, FEAR, FRAME & TIMOI, along with some others came out and did some amazing pieces of work, check the pics below.
Thats pretty much all I got to shoot. A lil bit of Vodka & orange juice prevented me from hitting up the Alpha Cult show on Saturday. Hopefully I’ll catch it before it ends.
